3 Tricks to Help Stick With Your Workout in 2020

So we’re a few weeks into the new year and my goal to try and workout every day is going pretty strong. Yay! While I’m not seeing any real ticks downward yet in my weight loss goal (losing 10 pounds in 2020 and I know tweaking my diet will be key to getting this done), I love starting my day with a good sweat. I just feel SO GOOD!

If working out is important to you but you’re having trouble jumping back on that bandwagon, here are some suggestions that might help.

  • Find a workout that you love! For me, it’s yoga. My daughter and I were talking over Christmas break about why we love practicing yoga so much and we both agreed that it challenges us both physically and mentally. It takes everything in me to do yoga (as well as sing all of the songs on the playlist) that I can’t even begin to wonder about the 45 things I need to do when I get home. To have that one hour where I’m only focusing on my workout gives me such peace and is such a battery recharge for me. When the weather warms up a little bit, I will add some running into my workout mix, but for now, I couldn’t be happier. (If anyone would be interested in a post about hot yoga from a rookie’s perspective, let me know! It took me forever to be book my first class and today I can’t imagine what my life would be had I not taken that step, not to mention the amazing community of yogis I’d have been robbed of knowing.) We are so lucky to live in a community with so many great studios and trainers. Take the time to find the one that works for you!
  • Invest in some good gear. I know this sounds so silly, but there is nothing worse than being distracted during your workout by old or ill-fitting workout clothes. I wish I had a dollar for every time I wrecked a workout because of a waistband that kept rolling down. Luckily for me, there is lululemon. I don’t think there is a better yoga pant on the market than lululemon’s Align leggings. Coming in a high rise and a super high rise, they suck you in all of the right places and they don’t move. They aren’t inexpensive, but they are worth every penny and this is coming from a girl who doesn’t like to spend a lot of money on workout clothes. I’m also a huge fan of lululemon’s Cool Racerback II tanks. These are not fancy tanks…they just keep everything covered! Also, the amazing staff at lululemon will help you match your gear to your workout and make sure it fits you the way it should.
  • Schedule your workout and stick to it. For me, early morning workouts are best and I try not to waver from this time. This way, I can knock it out before anything else gets in the way. Getting up this early does also mean I’m often in bed at 9 p.m., but that’s not all bad either.

I hope these tips are helpful and don’t sound preachy. Believe me, I’m still trying to figure things out for sure! If you have any thoughts you’d like to share, please do!

Here’s to 2020 and meeting all of our goals.
