Dry January Mocktail Ideas

January 8, 2021 By Ann Marie Scheidler Leave a Comment

Cheers to surviving the first full week of 2021!

Like many of you, I’m having a dry January over here and trying my hand at a few new mocktails (alcohol-free). Even when you’re not drinking, it’s so nice to be able to hold a pretty cocktail glass with something that tastes good (and that also happens to be low in calories). Here are a few easy recipes for you to make during your happy hour this weekend.

Mint Spritz

  • 1 lime
  • Sprig or two of mint
  • Diet tonic water (I like Canada Dry’s the best!)

Squeeze the juice of one lime into a tumbler. Muddle it with a mint spring or two. Fill your glass ice and top with diet tonic water. Stir and enjoy! Makes 1 mocktail.

Spicy Mockarita

  • 2 limes
  • Chili lime seasoning
  • 1 jalapeno slice
  • 1 can of grapefruit Spindrift (or grapefruit flavored seltzer water)
  • Diet tonic water (Canada Dry for the win!)

Put chili lime seasoning on a small plate. Cut one lime into wedges. Use one wedge to coat the rim of your glass with lime. Set other wedges aside. Dip your glass rim into the chili lime seasoning. Squeeze the juice of one lime into a tumbler. Muddle it with a jalapeno slice. Fill glass half way with grapefruit seltzer. Add ice. Top with diet tonic water. Stir and enjoy! Makes 1 mocktail.

Sincerely Sara’s Ritual Margarita

My sweet friend Sara Meadows posted a margarita mocktail recipe last week on her blog using Ritual Zero Proof, a natural, zero/low calorie, non-alcoholic substitute for liquor. Until now, I’ve not been a fan of these alcohol substitutes–for some reason I’ve thought they all tasted like pickles. (Bleh!) But Sara’s recipe changed that for me. This recipe is really good, and the Ritual non-spirits can be found almost anywhere now.

  • Ritual Zero Proof Tequila Substitute
  • 3 limes
  • 2 tablespoons chili lime seasoning
  • Fresca

Put chili lime seasoning on a small plate. Cut one lime into wedges. Use one wedge to coat the rim of two glasses with lime. Set other wedges aside. Coat the rims of both glasses with chili lime seasoning. Fill a cocktail shaker 1/4 full with ice. Squeeze the juice of two limes into the shaker. Add 4 oz. of the Ritual tequila substitute. Shake it up. Fill glasses with ice and pour the shaker into the glasses. Top both glasses off with Fresca and add a lime wedge to each glass. Makes 2 mocktails.

New Fashioned

Here’s another Ritual Zero cocktail–the Old Fashioned, but this one made with their Whiskey alternative.

  • Ritual Whiskey Alternative
  • 2 lemons
  • 3 oranges
  • Fresca

Fill a cocktail shaker 1/4 full with ice. Squeeze the juice of two lemons and two oranges into the shaker (slice one orange for the garnish). Add 4 oz. of the Ritual whiskey substitute. Shake it up. Fill glasses with ice and pour the shaker into the glasses. Top both glasses off with Fresca and add an orange slice to each glass. Makes 2 mocktails.

Additionally, if you’re local, I saw that Ellie Nottoli is curating mocktail kits. Be sure to check out her Instagram page @elliestyled for details.

Happy Friday!

I have to admit that I'm a little anxious going into this inauguration week. I'm truly hoping we'll have the peaceful transition that we've been promised. As if she knew my mind was a little unsettled, my mom shared this quote from Pope Francis in our sister group text this week.⁣
⁣
"Rivers do not drink their own water; trees do not eat their own fruit, the sun does not shine on itself and flowers do not spread their fragrance for themselves. Living for others is a rule of nature. We are all born to help each other. No matter how difficult it is...Life is good when you are happy, but much better when others are happy because of you."⁣

I ❤️ this! Let's have a great week. Happy happy Sunday! ❌⭕️⁣

My sweet friend Courtney from @alifefromscratch is regularly featuring hearty pots of soup and her recipe for "Zuppa Toscana" (Italian Soup) is one that will be on repeat in my house this season. You can pull it together quickly, with just a few ingredients, and is one of those magical light dinners that has you leaving the table feeling full. Today on the blog, I share Courtney's delicious recipe. Enjoy!⁣ 🥣
