Friday Five

Friends, we made it to the end of another week. And if your week has been anything like mine, that’s no small victory!!

But this week hasn’t been without some super high points…many of them coming yesterday! I kicked off my Thursday on a Garden Walk sponsored by the Spirit of 67, our local school district. This year’s committee knocked it out of the park. When Covid restrictions made the idea of a traditional home tour impossible, they hosted a spectacular outdoor garden walk on September’s most beautiful day. My mom was my plus one and we had the best morning, taking in some of Lake Forest’s most beautiful settings and seeing some friends we hadn’t seen in months. Then before I headed over to my favorite Thursday night thing-to-do which is helping feed our Varsity football players at their weekly team dinner, I was lucky enough to help celebrate J. McLaughlin mark its 10-year-anniversary in Market Square. Even better, was knowing they partnered with the incredible Mother’s Trust Foundation, donating some of their proceeds from their milestone day to an organization that is a safety net to so many. They had a fantastic turnout and it was great to see so many wonderful people coming together.

I’m on a bit of a high as I pull this Friday Five together, so I’m going to make it a good one. Let’s do this!

Statement Earrings: I was gifted these beautiful freshwater wishbone pearl earrings from designer Mary Caroline Spano. I tend to be pretty traditional or preppy with my jewelry, but these earrings took me out of my box and I love it. They are lightweight but make a dramatic statement. Definitely worth a look (or two!).

Toffee-Pumpkin Pie Bars: I know it still feels like summer, but I had to jump on the fall bandwagon and make these incredibly easy toffee-pumpkin pie bars. They’re perfect for this first weekend of October!

Shearling Birkenstocks: My kids make fun of me for my obsession with PJs and slippers, but it’s no joke. And I actually think I may have found the perfect shoe-slipper hybrid in these Shearling Birkenstocks. To say they are to die for is no exaggeration. I ordered my typical shoe size and they fit perfectly. I didn’t even have to adjust the oversized buckles that are also just so perfect. I promise that you will wear these every day!

Dreamy Dress: I wore this unbelievably comfy dress from Anthropologie yesterday and it took from the garden walk, to the ribbon cutting, to serving dinner to some sweaty football players without missing a beat. It hits just above my ankles and looked very cute with sneakers, but could be just as stylish with boots or slides. The cinched high waist and longer sleeve are super flattering. My only complaint is that the sleeves roll up from time to time, but under a denim jacket as the days get cooler–no one will see this. This Somerset Maxi dress comes in a handful of colors. For reference, I bought a small and it fits true to size.

T-Minus 10 Days: I can’t believe I’m even going to say this but the marathon is next Sunday, October 10. Thanks to the kindness of many of you, I’m almost at my fundraising goal for GLASA, the Great Lake Adaptive Sports Association. GLASA, headquartered in Lake Forest, supports those with a physical or visual disability participate in sports. I’m pretty sure that winning the marathon is unlikely for me this year, but hitting my fundraising goal is a real possibility. If you’d like to support my run for GLASA, please click here. I’ll be forever grateful.

We have another full slate of football this weekend. Please say a little prayer that the boys all stay healthy and have fun. Then we all win, right?

Have a great weekend! Go Scouts! And go Irish!
