As many of you know, I’ve been working on “freshening” up my house for the last few months (I promise to post some updates soon!). I’ve been blown away how fresh paint and some new accessories can completely remake a space, so my radar has been on high alert for any local estate or consignment sales.
I was thrilled to learn that the Trinkets & Treasures sale will be held in Lake Bluff this Friday through Sunday, September 20, 21, and 22. The event is hosted by Beyond the Bluff Conducted Sales, Lake Bluff History Museum and two New York stylists–Trent Wisehart, Creative Director for Tommy Hilfiger and architect Michael Hoeft–who will be offering an entire household of unique antique and vintage home furnishings curated from around the world.
Wisehart and Hoeft relocated to Lake Bluff in 2016 when they purchased an architecturally significant David Adler manor home, which they completely renovated.
“Trent and I are both from the Midwest so moving to Lake Bluff was like coming home,” says Hoeft. “We’re both huge fans of David Adler’s work and just fell in love with this house.” [Editor’s Note: Wisehart and Hoeft’s restored home will be featured on the Lake Bluff History Museum’s holiday home tour. During the renovation, Wisehart and Hoeft scoured antique stores, flea markets, and estate sales for an eclectic mix of primitive art, French and English antiques, taxidermy, mid-century modern furnishings, and more. “Most of our purchases were project-driven or just things we found really special,” adds Hoeft. “One of my favorite pieces is this French settee loveseat [shown below],” Hoeft says. “We found it in New York. While we kept the lines and the finish the same, we updated the fabric so this piece can be used anywhere now. It’s not fussy. I think this approach to vintage pieces is so refreshing because we’re keeping history alive in such a modern way by repurposing and reusing them.”
When Wisehart and Hoeft finished restoring their Lake Bluff home and furnishing it exquisitely, the duo was left with many treasures that didn’t fit with the new décor. They partnered with Beyond the Bluff, a premier facilitator of estate sales, to hold an estate sale on the property last summer, which was an overwhelming success.
But that sale didn’t mark the end of the overflow. When trucks recently arrived with even more furnishings, art, and accessories from their former home in New Jersey—including circa 1950s-60s clothing from Celine, St. Johns, Dior, Chanel, Gucci and more—the decision was made to hold another sale, again partnering with Beyond the Bluff and also including the Lake Bluff History Museum. A portion of the event’s proceeds go to the Museum.
While Wisehart and Hoeft are hoping to unload some of their finds, they still enjoy the hunt. “We love to visit Jayson Home in Chicago, as well as some of the antique sales in Grayslake or Elkhorn. We’ve also had luck at some of the little shops on Randolph Street,” says Hoeft.
Trinkets & Treasures also will include jewelry, art and Lake Bluff memorabilia from the Museum, which will offer items from its private collection as well as treasures donated by docents and supporters.
Trinkets & Treasures will be held inside the former PNC Bank building at 120 E. Scranton Avenue (across the street from Lake Bluff History Museum and Lake Bluff Library) on Friday, September 20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, September 21 and Sunday, September 22 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
