Prose Custom Hair Care: Is It Worth the Hype?

I confessed a couple of weeks ago to falling prey to the persuasive ways of some pretty slick Instagram marketing. On the daily, Prose Custom Hair Care would pop up in my feed with promises of hair products specifically designed for me. As I get older, the thickness and texture of my hair have definitely become problems for me. So I’d say the people at Prose knew exactly who was seeing their ads.

To purchase products from Prose (they’re only available online), they ask you to complete a pretty lengthy survey that covers issues you’re having with your hair issue, lifestyle, fragrance preferences, and where you live. Then, based on your answers, they suggest which products would be best for you.

According to Prose’s website, each blend is custom made specifically for the person it is intended. They have thousands of recipes using globally sourced materials that are environmentally conscious. Prose’s research and development lab is based in Paris, while all of their manufacturing actually happens in Brooklyn, New York. And, every product Prose formulates is free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, mineral oils, GMOs, and is always cruelty-free. Based on your preferences, they can make your formula vegan, gluten-free, silicone-free, dye-free, or fragrance-free.

When I finished my survey, Prose suggested I use a pre-shampoo hair mask, shampoo, conditioner, and dry shampoo. You can decline any of Prose’s recommendations but these four products (with a promotion code I had from another blogger) were less than $100, so I decided to give all of their products a go.

I’m two weeks in and very happy with Prose and the results I’m seeing so far. I use the hair mask once a week on Sundays, and the shampoo and conditioner every day. My hair is super shiny and looks very healthy. I’m also experimenting with the dry shampoo. I’ve never used that before and there’s a bit of a learning curve just making sure I don’t use too much. But it does give my hair some nice volume when I get it right.

Prose’s customer service is amazing, checking in to see how the products are working. When you order initially, there’s a price break if you opt into their monthly subscription service. I’m usually not a fan of those but chose to do it. Prose does, however, give you time to change your order before they mail you more product and are wonderful about sending reminder emails or texts to get this done before the next order is shipped. I decided I didn’t need the mask or dry shampoo this next month, but did choose to get the shampoo and conditioner again, as well as their hair oil that I’ve read great things about.

I definitely recommend these products if you’re looking to change up your hair care routine. These products are high quality and have incredible customer service to back it up.
