Some Sweet Christmas Treats

December 21, 2020 By Ann Marie Scheidler 2 Comments

Hi friends. If you’re anything like me, today marks the sprint to the finish for holiday planning so I knew any recipes I shared this week had to be super easy…and fun!

I have two quick pretzel treats today that are a fun activity to do with your family at home and they make for great little bites to have on-hand if you’re lucky enough to have some socially distant visitors over this holiday break.

Rolo Reindeer

I mean…c’mon. How cute are these little guys? And if you have an afternoon that you need to fill, those Rolo Reindeer are just what you need to make.

What You Need

  • 50 mini pretzels (divided)
  • 25 Rolo candies
  • 25 mini red M&Ms
  • 50 candy eyes (I’ve found them in the baking section of Jewel and Target)

What You Do

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Separate half of your pretzels and spread them out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone liner.
  3. Unwrap the Rolos and top each pretzel on the baking sheet with one.
  4. Cut the remaining pretzels in half down the middle to form the antlers. (A few may break, so its best to have about 10 extra pretzels or so.)
  5. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 1.5 to 2 minutes until the Rolos are soft.
  6. Remove the baking pan and add the nose, antlers, and eyes to each reindeer. (I added mine in that order).
  7. Allow the reindeer to cool completely to allow the chocolate to set before eating. (Place pan in the fridge for quicker cooling if desired.)

Santa’s Belly Buttons

There is nothing easier to make (or more addictive to eat) than these super simple Santa Belly Button candies.

What You Need

  • 1 bag of round pretzels (these waffle butter pretzels from Utz were perfect!)
  • 1 bag of Hershey’s Hugs
  • 1 bag of mint M&M

*The secret to these belly buttons is the mint to chocolate ratio. So if you can only find peppermint Hugs at the grocery store–buy them and just use a regular M&M.

What You Do

  • Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
  • Place round pretzels flat on a greased or foil-lined cookie sheet.
  • Place one unwrapped Hershey’s Hug in the center of each pretzel.
  • Put cookie sheet in oven and bake until the Hugs soften, about 10 minutes. (You definitely want to keep an eye on these so they don’t over cook.)
  • Remove from the oven and place one M&M on each Hug. Then, place in the refrigerator until set, about one hour.

Enjoy! Merry merry to all!

xo,

I have to admit that I'm a little anxious going into this inauguration week. I'm truly hoping we'll have the peaceful transition that we've been promised. As if she knew my mind was a little unsettled, my mom shared this quote from Pope Francis in our sister group text this week.⁣
⁣
"Rivers do not drink their own water; trees do not eat their own fruit, the sun does not shine on itself and flowers do not spread their fragrance for themselves. Living for others is a rule of nature. We are all born to help each other. No matter how difficult it is...Life is good when you are happy, but much better when others are happy because of you."⁣

I ❤️ this! Let's have a great week. Happy happy Sunday! ❌⭕️⁣

(The bar is low, I know, but we're celebrating all of the little victories, right?!?) To mark this mini-milestone, I'm resurrecting a favorite series of mine from early last year called "Friday Favorites." In today's blog post, I share just a few things I'm loving this week. Have a super weekend! ❌⭕️⁣

My sweet friend Courtney from @alifefromscratch is regularly featuring hearty pots of soup and her recipe for "Zuppa Toscana" (Italian Soup) is one that will be on repeat in my house this season. You can pull it together quickly, with just a few ingredients, and is one of those magical light dinners that has you leaving the table feeling full. Today on the blog, I share Courtney's delicious recipe. Enjoy!⁣ 🥣

Cheers to surviving the first full week of 2021!⁣⁣ It was one for the books. 🥴

Like many of you, I'm having a dry January over here and trying my hand at a few new mocktails (alcohol-free). Even when you're not drinking, it's so nice to be able to hold a pretty cocktail glass with something that tastes good (and that also happens to be low in calories). Today on the blog, I'm sharing a few easy recipes for you to make during your happy hour this weekend--including one I took from my dear friend @saragmeadows . ❤️ Happy Friday! ❌⭕️
