Spring Scents: How to Make One Your Own

Are you a cologne gal? I totally am!

Years ago, I was working in an office and my sweet friend/colleague Katie was sitting next to me and smelled so good. I asked what her perfume was and she said it was “Red Roses” from Jo Malone (no surprise that this fantastic girl went on to be an amazing florist!). It’s floral, but not heavy the way some fragrances are with those rosy notes.

So I headed out to Nordstrom to pick up a bottle of it. When I got to the Jo Malone counter, the salesperson asked me if I had every mixed my Jo Malone scents. I hadn’t, so we began to play and I fell in love with a combination of Grapefruit and Red Roses. She was a very savvy sales rep to get me to buy two bottles of cologne, but it’s now my go-to, all of the time, no matter what season we’re in fragrance. My daughter Grace has become a Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin gal. Whenever I’m out and I smell it, I think of her.

Jo Malone often has an amazing array of samples that you can get at their counters so you can take a few scents home and experiment with them until you find your perfect one. This is a really fun Mother’s Day gift, too. I’ve had great luck finding Jo Malone at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and some Bluemercury stores.

I’d love to know what your favorite fragrances are. Feel free to leave a message on this post.

I love Jo Malone fragrances as well, especially Wood Sage & Sea Salt. Another favorite line is Henry Rose (founded by actress Michelle Pfeiffer). She uses very high quality ingredients. Jake’s House is a great fragrance in that line. You can order a full set of small roller samples for under $50 to help you find the one you like.
