What I’m Reading, Watching, & Listening To

It’s been a different kind of busy over here in the Scheidler house since the weather has been too cold to be outside, so I thought I’d let you know what I’ve been reading, watching, and listening to in my AirPods to keep myself from going stir crazy.

What I’m Reading

A friend of mine who tends to like the same books I do suggested I pick up Oona Out of Order by Margarita Monitmore and I’m so glad she did (Thank you, Sarah!). I started reading Oona Out of Order on the plane ride home from Florida last week and I’m almost finished. In a nutshell, the main character, Oona Lockhart, is celebrating New Year’s Eve 1982 and the eve of her 19th birthday, but at midnight she passes out and wakes up as a 19-year-old trapped in the body of a 51-year-old. Thus begins Oona living life out of order—every January 1 going forward, at 12:01 a.m., she wakes up as herself in a different year of life. Each year brings its own challenges of piecing together her accomplishments, friends and lovers, and mistakes. So many times I’ve said I wish I could be 25-years-old again with my 50-year-old brain and this book is giving me a little peek into what that life could be. It’s super fun–highly recommend!

What I’m Watching

Framing Britney Spears

This unauthorized documentary–Framing Britney Spears— on her conservatorship is so compelling. To be honest, I didn’t know how a conservatorship works (in this case–a court-appointed legal guardianship under which Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, holds complete control over her assets, finances, and estate)–much less how an estranged parent could continue to execute one over his almost-40-year-old daughter. I wish this had been a six-part series because I was left with so many questions after this 75-minute show was over. However, I’ve heard that Netflix has something in the works that Britney herself may be involved in. Stay tuned!

Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy

One episode into this six-part series–Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy–and I’m in love! Award-winning actor Stanley Tucci revisits Italy, a place where he lived when he was a young boy. Filmed prior to the pandemic ravaging the world, Tucci explores all parts of Italy through its cuisine. Filmed like a movie, this series is a feast for the eyes!

What I’m Listening To

Even the Rich

I know I’ve talked about this podcast before, but I have to mention it again! Wondery’s Even the Rich is one of the smartest, best produced, pop-culture series I’ve ever listened to. On my many treadmill miles this week, they’ve covered Harry and Meghan, the Kardashians, John F. Kennedy, Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, and Chappaquiddick. I have yet to listen to one where I haven’t learned something. I hope co-hosts Brooke Siffrinn and Aricia Skidmore-Williams keep churning out more and more episodes.

Jackie, Ethel, Joan: Women of Camelot

After listening to the Even the Rich series about Chappaquiddick, I downloaded one of the books they referenced Jackie, Ethel, Joan: Women of Camelot by J. Randy Taraborrelli. It’s a little more behind-the-scenes of the wives of the famous Kennedy men. Who knew that Ethel was the one all newcomers feared? Very fun listen.

I’d love to know how you’re keeping yourself entertained these days! Please let me know!
