A Few Friday Faves

I’m bringing back “A Few Friday Faves” this week. When our stay at home first started, I wasn’t sure a post like this made sense. But given we’ll be hunkering down a few more weeks, I thought, what the heck? Let’s kick off the weekend with a few favorite things.

Lake Forest Food & Wine: There are so many heroes that have risen to the occasion during this pandemic. This week, Lake Forest Food & Wine announced that it will provide free lunch to all essential workers on duty with the City of Lake Forest (police, fire, paramedics, city employees) and all medical staff on shift at Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital. These lunches are in partnership with a generous donor to fuel all workers on the front line. Lake Forest Food & Wine is offering its same delicious menu as always. My Wife Said You May Want to Marry Me: Are you in the mood for an amazing love story? This last Tuesday, Jason Rosenthal, the husband of the late Amy Krouse Rosenthal who penned the New York Times Modern Love essay “You May Want to Marry My Husband,” released his memoir. Although we’ve heard snippets from him since Amy passed from ovarian cancer in 2017, he shares his story and what life has been since his wife’s famous essay was read by more than 5 million. This is a must read for all romantics.

Beautycounter Lip Sheers: Quarantine confession–I got into a terrible habit of not putting on any makeup for the first couple weeks we were staying at home. But I got back into the habit this week and it really made a difference in how I was feeling and my productivity. Go figure! These Beautycounter lip sheers have been the perfect WFH lipstick…great color, clean brand, moisturizing, and not too heavy when worn with leggings! Being a red girl, this Poppy color is everything! I think this week if you’re a first-time customer, you get 20% off your first order (you don’t need to work through a rep to get this).

Before I let you go, here are some other things I’m obsessed with this week:

  • Currently listening to: I’ve refound one of my favorite podcasts, “The Two Gomers.” I started listening to them about 10 years ago when I was training for my first marathon. They were doing the same. This year, these two friends who grew up in Madison have challenged themselves to lose 20 pounds. They discuss their journey and it’s so real and so hilarious and I can’t get enough.
  • Currently reading: Have you started my April book pick, And They Called It Camelot: A Novel of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis? It’s fiction, but so good–the absolute perfect escape!
  • Currently following: I’m slightly biased towards this one, but my daughter Grace has an instagram account called @graceliveswell. She’s a sophomore in college and a foodie. Grace provides amazing recipes and food inspiration, while talking about how she’s handling her struggles with anxiety during this pandemic. It’s great insight into how some college students are processing their new normal.

Happy weekend!

Thank you for all the great suggestions. I can’t wait to follow Grace. I am going to order the April book from the Lake Forest Book Store. You can order your book online and pick it up at the store. The owner is so appreciative for the support. Not only am I getting great books but I also feel like I’m helping in some small way. I don’t work for the book store nor am I related to anyone who works there – I just can’t imagine our town without them.
